Letter from Jim Knight – Superintendent of Schools
From the moment we had to close our schools back in March, our students, staff, and parents have done a tremendous job of partnering with our teachers to ensure learning until things return to normal. We have said from the beginning that Lamesa ISD will seek your input and make decisions in the best interest of our community. As the start of school draws closer, the plans we have spent the summer working on will provide a high level of instructional engagement that you expect from us, emphasizing the safety of students and staff.
Thank you for your feedback regarding the Governor’s option to offer both online and in-person learning. The overwhelming majority of the communication I received from surveys and personal contacts with parents were requests to reassure them that in-person learning would occur. Based on your feedback and critical data, Lamesa ISD continues to use these principles to guide our decisions.
- Keeping the Health & Safety of our student and Staff
- Adopting practices that promote the highest level of teaching & learning
- Protect the social & emotional health of our students & employees
- Providing practical & sensible plans with our working families
- Being transparent with communication to preserve your trust
- Using data, CDC & TEA guidelines to make in informed decisions
THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE
Since the Texas Education Agency decided to offer both an on-campus and remote option for Texas students in late June, Lamesa ISD has been working to equip classrooms and teachers with the tools and training to deliver that to our students. Some of that equipment may not be completely installed until after Labor Day. Scheduling students into two different modes of learning, training teachers, and planning and practicing the logistics of health and safety protocols are big tasks. Your grace and patience as we proceed at the speed of safety are immensely appreciated.
Please know that we will be prepared and ready for anything that comes our way, and your students are in good hands. #TOR STRONG
